Construction started in 1994 on a man-made island located 280 meters offshore. Engineers faced significant challenges, including building a stable foundation on sand and protecting the structure from the sea. The island was created by driving hundreds of concrete piles deep into the seabed, ensuring the hotel’s stability.

The Burj Al Arab reaches a height of 321 meters, making it one of the tallest hotels in the world. Its distinctive shape is more than an aesthetic choice; it serves functional purposes as well. The two “wings” of the building form a V shape that encloses a massive atrium, one of the tallest in the world at 180 meters.

The exterior is clad in a white Teflon-coated fiberglass fabric, which reflects sunlight and gives the building its bright, gleaming appearance.
